Girl Talk Clubs: Peer-to-Peer Mentorship in a Vibrant Community

All you need to start a Girl Talk Club is one high school Club Leader, one Adult Advisor, and a meeting location. Then, the Girl Talk Club application must be completed collaboratively by the Club Leader and Adult Advisor. You can find more information about the application process here. To start a Girl Talk Club, you only need one Leader, one Advisor, and one Mentee. We do not have a minimum number of Mentees that must attend meetings.

Girl Talk Clubs can meet at any designated, safe, and accessible location. The majority of Clubs meet at schools, but we also have Clubs that meet at community centers, parks, coffee shops, places of worship, or even virtually. It is up to the Club to determine the best location for all members.

Girl Talk believes there should be no barriers or obstacles to a girl gaining leadership experience. Accordingly, our Club program is completely free.

We suggest that Girl Talk Clubs meet for an hour. This will give enough time to welcome the Mentees, do a check-in and icebreaker, go through one of our lessons, break out and discuss, regroup, reflect, and wrap things up. We have Clubs that meet for more than an hour and some that meet for half of an hour. You can find a sample schedule of a meeting in our Girl Talk Club Resource toolkit here.

Of course! We have a number of successful international Clubs. Please note that Girl Talk Curriculum is currently only available in English.

Absolutely! Girl Talk Club Leaders are typically in the 9th-12th grades and it is our hope that 8th grade Mentees will aspire to become Club Leaders upon entering 9th grade, creating a legacy and ongoing program.

The very first Girl Talk Club started in 2002 and is still meeting today. We encourage transitioning to new Club Leaders and Adult Advisors as individuals in those roles graduate or move.
