Zoë Fort Celebrated as the 2023 Girl Talk Alumni Spirit Awardee
October 4, 2023
ATLANTA, GA — The Girl Talk Alumni Spirit Award is presented each year to an alumna who stands out in her commitment to Girl Talk as well as her own accomplishments. This year’s recipient, Zoë Fort, has been involved with Girl Talk since age 12, as a mentee, mentor, and camp counselor.
Girl Talk’s team members described Zoë as calm, thoughtful, and intentional. That intentionality shines through in her academic and community pursuits: she was Girl Talk’s inaugural National Teen Advisory Board Diversity Chair, and represented the student body in multiple diversity and inclusion positions in college.
She graduated from Brandeis University with high honors and is now a second-year medical student at Emory. Zoë has a passion for women in pregnancy and childbirth: she is the president of the OBGYN interest group at Emory and previously worked as a doula for her own startup, Fortress Birth Doula Services. As an undergraduate student, in addition to many academic recognitions, she earned high honors on her thesis entitled, “Not Your Super Woman: Implications of the Superwoman Trope on Black Women’s Birth Outcomes in the US.”
During the 2023 LeadHER Luncheon Honoree panel conversation on leadership, Zoë vulnerably shared how being part of Girl Talk empowered her on her mental health journey. She also shared a beautiful moment with two fellow Girl Talk Alumni, Amber Abernathy (2022 Alumni Spirit Award Recipient) and Asatta Leggett, who she calls her mentors and “Girl Talk Sisters.”
What a truly unique and inspiring path Zoë has forged.
Congratulations, Zoë. Thank you for inspiring the next generation of leaders.
