SHE LEADS – with Carrie Engelbrecht
Job Title:
Technical Project Manager, Cox Communications
What would you tell your younger self?
Be confident, you’re doing fine. Also, apply for jobs even if you don’t have all the requirements, make the ask.
What was your inspiration and what helped you become successful? How do you define success?
I let the fact that I was the only girl on my team motivate me for many years but then I realized that I was just driven to make my mark on the world, to leave it better than I found it.
What is your favorite quote?
“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our Light, not our Darkness, that most frightens us. Love is what we were born with. Fear is what we learned here. Joy is what happens to us when we allow ourselves to recognize how good things really are.” – Marianne Williamson
What is your favorite hobby?
Playing pool (billiards)
What advice do you want to give the next generation of women leaders?
Don’t settle when it comes to equal rights. Close to equal is not equal. The women who came before me and you fought hard to get us to where we are today but that doesn’t mean we give up the fight!
What does leadership mean to you?
Doing the right thing, no matter who’s watching. Eliminating barriers for your team. Steve Jobs use to say “I didn’t hire you so that I could tell you what to do, I hired you so you could tell me what to do” I think that is leadership.
What’s your advice on mentoring?
Always have at least 1 and always be one.
