Leadership Defined: Congresswomen

by Claudia Qi, Girl Talk Ambassador

Girl Talk works the way it does because young girls need positive, diverse role models to thrive in our big world. Seeing someone who you admire — who reminds you of yourself — doing great things can help you realize your own potential too.

I wanted to dedicate this post to women who do just that. First of all, what are Congresswomen? Why are they important?

Congresswomen are women that serve as members of Congress, typically in the House of Representatives. They’re legislators, A.K.A. law writers.

This year, a record number of women became congresswomen. As a male dominated field, this is a huge step for our country. We had our first two Native-American women become Congresswomen, Deb Haaland and Sharice David. We also had our first two Muslim women to become Congresswomen, Rashida Tlaib and Ilhan Omar. Even younger women got elected this year, with Alexandria Ocasio Cortez and Abby Finkenauer.

These are just a few examples of great women, showing young girls everywhere that they have the power to do anything.girl talk- leadership defined- blog- congresswomen
