10 Ways to Relax During the Holidays
by Jessica Rao, Girl Talk Ambassador
Finals week. All nighters spent cramming information. Drinking coffee to stay awake. The feeling of constant exhaustion. Flying pens and pencils. Endless words. Piles of paper everywhere. Until at last, a light at the end of the tunnel: winter break. After studying so hard to ace your finals, you deserve to relax and take a break.
Here are 10 of my favorite ways to unwind during the holiday season:
Now is the time to crack open your computer and binge watch as many tv shows and movies as you want. To celebrate the holidays, you can watch classic movies, like Home Alone or Elf, or you can just watch any of your other favorite movies and tv shows. Some of my favorites are Gilmore Girls, The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, La La Land, and The Princess Bride.
2. Read a book
During school, there’s not a lot of time to read for fun, so now you can finally open up all of those books that you’ve been wanting to read.
3. Listen to music
Listening to your favorite songs makes you feel happy and energized. You can even make a playlist with songs that you like on Spotify.
4. Spa day
Winter break gives you time to practice self-care. Some ideas for a spa day include taking a bubble bath, lighting some candles, using a bath bomb, painting your nails, putting on a face mask, etc.
5. Sleep in
Since you probably haven’t slept a lot because of exams, winter break gives you a good excuse to sleep longer.
6. Bake cookies
The holiday season is the perfect time for baking, whether it be cookies, cake, brownies, or any other baked goods that you want to make. You can even give them out as gifts to your friends and family.
7. Drink hot chocolate
Hot chocolate, one of the best winter beverages, makes for a perfect holiday treat. You can experiment with different toppings, like marshmallows, whipped cream, etc.
8. Treat yourself to your favorite foods
Pasta. French fries. Pizza. Grilled cheese. Whatever food you want. After all of your hard work, you deserve this.
9. Do something that you love to do
We all have different passions, whether it be writing, drawing, playing an instrument, or something else entirely. Take this time to do whatever it is that makes you happy.
10. Spend time with family & friends
The holiday season helps us to remember what we’re grateful for in our lives. Friends and family top that list, which is why we should spend more time with them during winter break.
